Letter from CS Lewis

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a little girl named Lucy. She was curious, adventurous, and filled with wonder. One day, she received a special letter from her affectionate godfather, C. S. Lewis.

“My Dear Lucy,” the letter began, “I wrote this story for you, but when I began it I had not realized that girls grow quicker than books.”

Lucy smiled as she read the words, feeling honored that her godfather had written a story just for her. But she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of story it was.

“As a result,” the letter continued, “you are already too old for fairy tales, and by the time it is printed and bound you will be older still.”

Lucy’s eyes widened in surprise. Too old for fairy tales? She didn’t think that was possible! She loved the magic and wonder of stories filled with princesses, dragons, and far-off lands.

“But some day,” the letter went on, “you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”

A glimmer of hope sparked in Lucy’s heart. She knew that one day she would rediscover the joy of fairy tales, no matter how old she grew.

“You can then take it down from some upper shelf, dust it, and tell me what you think of it,” the letter concluded.

Lucy nodded eagerly, imagining herself reaching up to a high shelf, pulling down the book, and diving into its pages filled with enchantment.

“I shall probably be too deaf to hear, and too old to understand a word you say,” the letter added, “but I shall still be.”

Lucy’s heart swelled with love for her godfather. Even if he couldn’t hear her or understand her words, she knew that his love would always be with her.

And so, with a sense of anticipation and excitement, Lucy tucked the letter away in a safe place, knowing that one day she would embark on a magical journey through the pages of her godfather’s story once again.

The end.
